A top of the line international art exposition in Hawai‘i could bring groundbreaking artists, curators, critics and collectors into town. "Chain of Fire: The Prologue Exhibition for the 2016 Honolulu Biennial" opens tonight and runs through next Saturday in warehouses at 445 and 449 Cooke Street across Fishers’. Find satellite exhibits at SPF Projects on 729 Auahi and Fishcake/Box Jelly at 307 Kamani St.
Public programs and panels are scheduled through this weekend into next Saturday. “Day of the Dead” memorials are the theme for keiki and family workshops this Sunday. Check a full schedule of events for the'Chain of Fire,' the Prologue Exhibition to the 2016 Honolulu Biennial, Co-presented by Hawai'i International Film Festival and Honolulu Biennial Foundation, as we are part of HIFF's program, and are co-presenting this together.
Participating artists include: Shigeyuki Kihara (Samoa/New Zealand), Bahar Behbahani (Iran/USA), Arahmaiani (Indonesia), Almagul Menlibayeva (Kazakhstan), Adrienne Keahi Pao (Hawai’i/USA), Mark Salvatus (Philippines), and Sama Alshaibi (Iraq/Palestine/USA), in addition to a site-responsive installation by multimedia artist Hasan Elahi (Bangladesh/USA).
Newly commissioned and site-responsive works by Hawai’i’s own Drew Broderick and the collective, Pas de Chocolat, will also be exhibited. Chain of Fire: The Prologue Exhibition for the 2016 Honolulu Biennial is curated by HBF Co-founding Directors, Dr. Kóan Jeff Baysa and Isabella Ellaheh Hughes, both internationally-operating curators and critics who were born and raised in Hawai’i.
