Classical Pacific - Wednesday, February 7, 2018 Pullitzer Prize Winners and Other Beautiful Music

The Pullitzer Prize for Music is given annually to a composer, since 1943, and is designated "for a distinguished musical composition of significant dimension by an American that has had its first performance in the United States during the year." Today, I'm going to share some of the composers with you. Some, like Gian Carlo Menotti and Samuel Barber, received the prize more than once.

The total number of winners so far is 67. Those that you'll hear today include Gian Carlo Menotti (1950, 19550, Samuel Barber (1958, 1963), Jennifer Higdon (2010), Roger Sessions (1982), and Wynton Marsalis (1997). In addition, I'll play music by Bach, Schoenberg, Debussy and Mozart to fill out the sound palate. Join me!
