TMT Board Defers Decision to Relocate

The board of the legally beleaguered Thirty Meter Telescope deferred on a decision to relocate the project to the Canary Islands. The announcement came last week following the passage of a Mauna Kea construction ban by one house of the state legislature. But a move is not off the table.

Hanalei and other North Shore communities on Kauai experienced severe flooding after heavy rains over the weekend.

Creating Climate Resilient Cities

Communities on Kauai and East Honolulu are struggling to recover from severe flooding. The governor proclaimed Kauai County a disaster area yesterday. The record rainfall is a test of our resiliency as we assess our ability to plan and respond to what is to come. The Honolulu City Council’s budget committee restored money for the Office of Climate Change after much hand-wringing last week. Less than a year after creation, the office is still in startup mode.

National Volunteer Week

This week is National Volunteer Week. Keone Kealoha is Executive Director of Kanu Hawaii.  He says, “Hawaii ranks near the bottom nationally in volunteerism coming in at 45th and at 22% per capita." Kanu Hawaii is helping residents find ways to get involved.
