Dignity on Wheels Program (aka LIFT): Eliot Bu
Anyone looking for a job is often tethered to a computer, scouring job openings, creating and sending resumes, and checking for responses. And usually job applications want an address usually that means a home. But for people without homes, having access to a simple thing like a mailbox or a shower is more frustrating. Eliot Bu and team members Ma-Ry Kim, Reid Mizue and Ryan Sullivan are seeking to change things with the program, Dignity on Wheels (aka LIFT).

Even a con man can go straight, with love to motivate him… that’s part of the message of the enduring musical “the Music Man,” but who needs a message, when the show has plenty of ensemble dancing, some great songs, and a surefire story? Suzi Bond has all of the above to work with as she puts together the Kilauea Drama & Entertainment Network production. She and a huge cast are hard at work, with an opening next week, and she’s on the line from Hawaii Island.

Maui Fishpond Community Work Day: Joylynn Paman
The fishponds of pre-contact Hawai’i were a kind of engineering miracle, ingeniously put together, using available materials, with a design that could last for generations. People built to last in those days, and you can learn a lot from their example. You can get an excellent object lesson in sustainability, aquaculture, and the ways of old Hawaii by taking part in one of the Maui Fishpond Association’s Community work days.
