Supreme Court Decision on Marriage: Andrea Anderson
Marriage equality is finally the law of the land and last week’s Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage - and the celebrations that followed - were part of a widespread recognition that the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people are the rights of all. It’d be a mistake, though, to think that the struggle had ended and Equality Hawaii Interim Executive Director Andrea Anderson is with us to talk about where we go from here.

Vivo Concert at Dragon Upstairs: Ruth Shiroma
Climb the stairs above Hanks’ in Chinatown and be transported into a different world, where the lights are low, the music an eclectic mix of pop, old standards, and original songs. There you will find Vivo Bandleader, Ruth Shiroma, every Tuesday night… sometimes with violinist Duane Padilla and clarinet player Norman Foster, and sometimes on her own with songs after dark. You might even be there when she has a guest soloist from the crowd. Ruth joined the show in our studios to share her musical inspiration.

Maunalua Bay Follow-up: Jeffrey Krantz
Maunalua Bay is one of the state’s busiest recreational areas and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration plans to make the bay in Hawaii Kai a Special Sanctuary Management Area, with the goal of protecting humpback whales and other marine life. Some of these proposed plans are drawing fire in the community. Jeffrey Krants is a member of the organization Friends of Maunalua Bay, which repesents a variety of neighborhood interests, and he joined the show to clarify some of their concerns.

Kokua Nepal Fundraising Follow-up: Melina Lillios
On April 25th of this year, the lives of thousands of people in Nepal were forever changed with a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that killed more than 8000 people and injured 23,000. Just a month later, an aftershock rocked the area. As many of us watched the devastation on the news, Melina Lillios was inspired to act. In just a few short weeks she organized a fundraiser concert Kokua Nepal and due to her diligence and persistence she was able to raise $10,000 in just a few hours. How hard is it to arrange a musical event on such a large scale? Well, from the outside it seemed easy, but without her dogged pursuit for the greater good, it might never have taken place. Melina Lillios joined the show to share more on her fundraising event and give an update on how the money has changed people’s lives.
