Moana, pictured here, is the heroine of the eponymous film about a Polynesian girl and demigod

The holiday movie season gets underway this weekend and tonight the much anticipated Disney film Moana opens. Last week Na’alehu Anthony was at the media preview. He’s the CEO and Director at ‘OiwiTV, Hawai’is only Hawaiian language and culture television station. He is also a former Hokule’a crew member.  We talked about the film afterward and I asked him how he approached the film and whether the reaction of the kids in the audience changed his initial reaction.

Jairus Rhoades is a piano virtuoso and will be joining NPR's From The Top

Jairus Rhoades has been playing piano for most of his young life, and at the ripe old age of 12, is already performance-tested, as the first place winner for his age group in the 2015 Aloha International Piano Festival Completion and a veteran of other competitions for young performing artists. It’s safe to say, though, that his next concert will be his most exciting challenge yet: a performance that will be recorded and broadcast on National Public Radio’s “From the Top.”

Jason Wong tells us that distribution in the food service industry is due for major changes

In certain restaurants, instead of a server taking your order, it’s a tablet. That’s only one of the changes automation is bringing to the front and the back of the kitchen.  As we continue our ongoing series The Last Job in Hawaii, today we look at the jobs most vulnerable to automation in the food service industry. Jason Wong is the Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at HFM Foodservice, Hawaii’s largest statewide distributor. He’s recently back from a national industry conference and we sat down this week to consider the mainland changes making their way to Hawaii.

Iao Valley Theatre is putting on a stage adaptation of the film classic 'Mary Poppins'

We all should have had a nanny like Mary Poppins, the eminently sensible, relentlessly cheerful heroine of the 1964 Disney movie. Her story has been re-shaped into a stage musical that captures all the fun of the movie, with a few theatrical tricks of the trade thrown in. Mary Poppins the Broadway Musical is coming to the Iao Theater in a Maui Onstage production.. Alexis Dascoulias is directing the show, and is having a good time doing it.
