Star-crossed lovers, fairies, and a weaver transformed into a half-donkey come together in an enchanted forest.

On February 14 at the Blaisdell Concert Hall, Hawaii Opera Theatre opens a new production of Benjamin Britten's setting of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. This is the first Britten opera HOT has brought to Honolulu audiences.

HPR continues its series “A Curious Person’s Guide” with a behind-the-scenes look into the making of this Dream. HOT Executive Director Simon Crookall acts as our "merry wanderer of the night," leading listeners "up and down, up and down" and into the making of this enchanting production, directed by HOT Artistic Director Henry Akina.

"A Curious Person's Guide to A Midsummer Night's Dream" airs this Wednesday, February 10, at 3:00 p.m. on HPR-1.

Nick Yee’s passion for music developed at an early age, as he collected jazz and rock records pulled from dusty locations while growing up in both Southern California and Honolulu. In college he started DJing around Honolulu, playing Jazz and Bossa Nova sets at various lounges and clubs under the name dj mr.nick. He started to incorporate Downtempo, House and Breaks into his sets as his popularity grew, eventually getting DJ residences at different Chinatown locations. To this day, he is a fixture in the Honolulu underground club scene, where his live sets are famous for being able to link musical and cultural boundaries, starting mellow and building the audience into a frenzy while steering free of mainstream clichés.
