The first of two informational meetings about cesspools is taking place tomorrow on Maui.
Last month, the Department of Health submitted a report to the legislature – saying nearly half the cesspools in the state pose a threat to drinking and near-shore water.
The DOH is holding community meetings on Maui and Oahu to discuss the report.
The first two meetings are being held in areas the department characterizes as critical.
Sina Pruder is the Chief of the DOH’s Wastewater Branch.
Pruder says more meetings are being planned for other islands, but there are no set dates yet.
The first meeting is being held tomorrow at 6 PM at the Eddie Tam Memorial Center in Makawao.
The second meeting is being held this Friday, January 12, at 6 PM at the Kualoa-He?eia Ecumenical Youth (KEY) Project.
