Helping Hand - February 7, 2014 full interview with Aloha Medical Mission

Helping Hand is a new weekly feature on HPR with local All Things Considered host Dave Lawrence. Each Friday afternoon, Helping Hand will put the spotlight on an organization or event that offers assistance to folks in need in the community. This week we’re learning about the Aloha Medical Mission.

An estimated 430,000 individuals — one-third of Hawai`i’s population — lack dental care because they cant afford dental insurance. The Aloha Medical Mission Dental Clinic was established in 2002. It’s Hawai`i’s only free dental clinic, funded mostly through state and private grants and we’ll learn more today with our guest, who really has a unique perspective on the program: Brendt Lum, Dental Director.
