Helping Hand - March 28, 2014 full interview with Mental Health Kokua

Helping Hand is a weekly feature on HPR airing on All Things Considered at 5:30pm each Friday afternoon on HPR1 stations statewide (and archived here online in our growing Helping Hand directory). Each week, HPR All Things Considered local host Dave Lawrence puts the spotlight on an organization or event in the community that offers assistance to the disabled and other folks in need.  This week we’re learning about Mental Health Kokua with our guest – CEO Greg Payton.

From reading their website, Mental Health Kokua is the largest mental health non-profit in Hawai`i, and has been providing services here for more than 40 years. Though they provide many services, they may be best known for helping those who are both homeless and mentally ill, with 30 houses across the state on all the major islands, and they claim a greater than 90% long-term recovery success rate. We'll learn more today.
