Each Friday afternoon at 5:30 on HPR1 stations statewide, and online here, HPR presents Helping Hand, putting the focus on an organization or event in the community that offers assistance to the disabled and other community members in need. Especially topical this week in the islands is the issue of child abuse, as the capital murder case relating to the beating death of five-year old Talia Williams continues. For Helping Hand today, All Things Considered host Dave Lawrence speaks with Prevent Child Abuse Hawai`i Executive Director Aileen Deese.
Prevent Child Abuse Hawai`i is a private non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse in all it’s forms and to ensuring that every child in the state of Hawai`i is able to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment. Prevent Child Abuse Hawai`i is a chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America.
