In the decade after 1961, Motown record’s distinctive sound propelled 110 hits into the Billboard top ten.  This weekend, the Kings of Spade present their 4th annual Motown Valentines Review featuring the music of the Supremes, Jackson five, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and others.  HPR’sNoeTanigawa caught a recent rehearsal.

Kings of Spade present Motown Valentines 4, a Live Tribute to Motown, featuring performances by Kings of Spade, The Bentos, Yoza and Taimane in Honolulu at The Republik, Saturday, February 14th, 2015. Tickets are on sale now. This is an 18 and over event.

Honolulu’s soul singers including Tahiti Rey (The Deadbeats), Big Mox (Angry Locals), Melodie Soul (Blue Light Funk Band), Gyn Barnes, Candy Diaz, Kahnma (JookBox City), Erika Elona, Maryanne Ito & Stephanie Kong (Beauty & The Beard) make up a 10-piece SUPER BAND complete with keys, back-up vocalists, and a brass horn section, to pay tribute to this distinctly soulful and pop sound.
