The application process for Section 8 low income housing in Hawai‘i has opened for the first time in more than a decade.  Section 8 housing provides vouchers which pay for a large portion of rent and utilities.

To accommodate all applicants, state officials are accepting application through an online portal.  The portal will be open for just three days… beginning next Thursday, August 16th, and closing on the 18th.  In that time… city officials expect to receive around 12,000 applicants.  And for those selected… the rent is usually around a $1000 a month.

The program is accepting applications from those who are homeless, victims of domestic violence, or involuntarily displaced families.  Pono Shim is the chair of the Hawai‘i Public Housing Authority Board.

Public housing officials are also cautioning about housing scams… saying that there is no charge to apply for housing… and to report anyone who is asking for fees.  More information on applying for Section-Eight housing can be found at HPHA.Hawaii.Gov

Nick Yee’s passion for music developed at an early age, as he collected jazz and rock records pulled from dusty locations while growing up in both Southern California and Honolulu. In college he started DJing around Honolulu, playing Jazz and Bossa Nova sets at various lounges and clubs under the name dj mr.nick. He started to incorporate Downtempo, House and Breaks into his sets as his popularity grew, eventually getting DJ residences at different Chinatown locations. To this day, he is a fixture in the Honolulu underground club scene, where his live sets are famous for being able to link musical and cultural boundaries, starting mellow and building the audience into a frenzy while steering free of mainstream clichés.
