Reaction is still coming in to the dismissal of Tom Apple as chancellor of the University of Hawaii. Apple is offered a tenured faculty position as a chemistry professor, as well as a lump sum payment of $100,000 including attorney’s fees. No official explanation has been given for his termination.
On Thursday, UH Students staged a protest march to Lassner’s office at Bachman Hall. The President greeted the marchers and listened to their concerns, but said that he feels his decision isn’t wrong. Rebekah Carroll is the Vice president of the Graduate Student Organization which helped to plan the rally.
Carroll says Apple has a lot of support from the student body, because many felt that he listened to their concerns about the university.
