Vieux Farka Toure in Hawaii and on HPR's All Things Considered

Ian Campbell/vieuxfarkatoure.com

Vieux Farka Toure is in Hawaii with datestonight at the MACC, tomorrow at the Kahilu Theatre, and Saturday and Sunday at the Blue Note touring behind his latest album Samba. He spoke with HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence, who discussed a wide range of topics with the son of legendary late Mali guitarist Ali Farka Toure. Some of the those topics include his journey through several instruments on the way to the guitar, why his father urged him not to go into the music business, and how, as a part of it, he speaks out on behalf of iconic African animals, like elephants and rhinos, caught in an existential survival against poachers killing them to feed consumer demand for illegal wildlife products in our Asia Pacific neighborhood.
