This week for Helping Hand, HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence speaks with the manager of The American Cancer Society Clarence T.C. Ching Hope Lodge, Michelle Hashimoto. The Hope Lodge provides a free home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers. Designed as a residential program for patients in active cancer treatment, it’s meant to help patients access the care they need in a supportive, homelike environment.

Musician Christian McBride is in Honolulu through tonight at the Blue Note in Waikiki. He took time to join HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence in our Atherton Performing Arts Studio.

On Helping Hand this week HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence welcomes back the Women’s Fund of Hawaii and Executive Director Leela Bilmes-Goldstein. The nonprofit address issues affecting women in the Aloha State, from poverty and food insecurity to domestic violence, including sexual abuse of women with developmental disabilities, to many other realms of concern, through making grants to sometimes grassroots and under the radar programs.

Thursday through Saturday this week, the band Hiroshima are back, and it's a special homecoming for keyboardist Kimo Cornwell. He's releasing his debut solo album, Hawaii State of Mind, and the first night of dates at the Blue Note will be a CD release celebration, and feature some music from it live in concert. He spoke with HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence about it.
