Guitarist Lee Ritenour is in the islands right now for a run of dates in Honolulu at the Blue Note Hawaii through Sunday. The guitarist, known to some as Captain Fingers due to his technical precision and equally impressive resume, spoke to HPR’s Dave Lawrence about some of his many career highlights, including work on a milestone rock album.

Los Lobos are back in the Aloha State beginning Thursday evening on the Garden Island. With a career spanning decades, longtime keyboardist, saxophonist and producer Steve Berlin shared with HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence ahead of the tour.

The Wailers is a reggae musical brand strongly associated with their one-time front man, Bob Marley; he played Waikiki with them in 1979. Original Wailer Aston “Family Man” Barrett, bassist and noted arranger keeps the legacy alive these days; he and the band are in town at the Blue Note thru Sunday, also in Waikiki. Dwayne “Danglin” Anglin, CeGee Victory, and Joshua David Barrett explained to HPR ATC Host Dave Lawrence how the band carries the torch forward.

The Cuban artist is joined by Venezuelan bassist Alvaro Benavides, Peruvian percussionist Jhair Sala, and Cuban keyboardist Edgar Pantoja. In town through Sunday at the Blue Note Hawai'i, the band took time for this conversation with HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence.

Jazz guitarist John Scofield and saxophonist Joe Lovano have a special relationship. Getting to know each other in the early 70's in Boston when both were students at Berklee College of Music, the two are in town with their quartet through Sunday at the Blue Note Hawai'i, a demonstration of an enduring musical and personal relationship.
