October 28, Friday – Iyeoka's Paper Heart - An interactive talk and performance led by multidisciplinary artist Iyeoka - a TED Fellow, world poetry slam champion and break-out recording artist. She will share stories of ‘aha’ moments of her creative journey, deliver live performances (both singing and poetry) and extend an open hand and heart welcoming friendship and exploration.
November 13, Sunday (4 PM) – “Buz” Tennent – Baritone Leslie “Buz” Tennent presents the Arthur Tennent Centennial Tribute concert at HPR’s Atherton studio. He will be joined by his long-time accompanist, pianist Eric Schank.
December 3, Saturday (4 PM) – Christopher O’Riley * – Acclaimed for his engaging and deeply committed performances, pianist Christopher O’Riley is known to millions as the host of NPR’s From the Top. His repertoire spans a kaleidoscopic array of music from the pre-baroque to the present day.
December 10 - Celtic Waves – Hawai‘i’s premier Celtic band celebrates the Solstice with their annual Winter concert in the Atherton. CALL 955-8821 for remaining tickets.
December 17 – Ron Artis II – North Shore artist Ron Artis returns to the Atherton for a concert of original music featuring the Atherton’s crown jewel, the magnificent Bosendorfer grand piano.
December 22, (7:00 PM) - Jake Shimabukuro - Join ʻukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro in an intimate evening of music and conversation to help the homeless. January 7 – Discord & Rye - At the center of the exploding Americana movement in Honolulu is Discord & Rye, a roots-rock group of musicians dedicated to exploring the history and future of original American music.
January 14- Lenore Raphael & Wayne Wilkinson - Jazz pianist Lenore Raphael returns to the Atherton with virtuoso guitarist Wayne Wilkinson to pay tribute to the great duo of Oscar Peterson and Joe Pass. They will perform tunes that Peterson and Pass performed and recorded together.
January 21 – Haven Trio Performs Jon Magnussen's TWINGE – The Dallas-based contemporary classical Haven Trio performs Jon Magnussen's new work "TWINGE" for soprano, piano, and clarinet, based on Pulitzer Prize-winner Barry Bearak's "The Day the Sea Came," the story of six survivors from the 2004 Indonesian tsunami. The creation and this performance of "TWINGE" is made possible with generous support from the 2015 Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Grant, University of Hawaiʻi SEED IDEAS Fund, UH West Oʻahu Distinguished Visiting Scholar Fund, and the UH West Oʻahu Music Fund.
January 28 – The Eli Duo 2.0 – An Evening of Classical and Original Island Inspired Music – Hawaiʻi Symphony violinist and singer/songwriter Nancy Shoop-Wu teams up with Hawaiian/Classical guitarist Ian O’Sullivan for an exciting program of classical, tango, and original works from both of their recent CDs, which celebrate the beauty and aloha spirit of Hawaiʻi. Both are Yale School of Music graduates and recent Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award finalists.
February 4 – Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum - SOLD OUT Bluegrass legends in the friendly and intimate confines of the Atherton Studio.
February 11 – Willow Chang – "The 7 Faces of Love" - In honor of Valentine's Day, Miss Willow has curated songs that depict the 7 kinds of love classified by the ancient Greeks. There'll be well-known tunes from the theater, pop music, jazz repertoire, and beyond. Let Miss Willow take you on an emotional journey of music and the heart.
February 18 – Harp, Piano and Voice - a Harmonious and Eclectic Blend in the Atherton – Harpist Megan Bledsoe Ward is joined by vocalist Rachel Schutz and pianist Susan Wingrove Reed for a special evening in the Atherton. In this program, the three artists perform unique pieces of music written for various combinations of harp, piano, and soprano trio. There are very few pieces written for harp and piano duo because of the unique sounds these instruments make. They discovered some interesting and beautiful pieces that explore the sonic interactions that are possible with these two instruments. The instrumentalists are then joined by a fabulous vocalist to expand the territory of repertoire for this chamber ensemble. The music spans Romantic, Impressionist, Classical, and Contemporary Avant-Garde genres. Purchase tickets
February 25 – Miki Aoki - Praised for “genuinely memorable performances” by BBC Music Magazine, pianist Miki Aoki is widely recognized for her diverse abilities as pianist. This will be her Atherton debut. Purchase tickets
March 4 – Partners in Time – Long-time HPR favorites, Partners in Time presents ethnic music from the Balkans and the Near East (primarily Bulgarian, Macedonian, Greek, Armenian and Turkish). Purchase tickets
