The recent hacks of Equifax and other large data breaches are cause for concern as we get into tax time. Taxpayers are being urged to file early if you can, particularly if your data has been compromised in any way, as there have been cases where thieves have used identity theft to collect your tax return before you even know it.

Net Neutrality Executive Order
You may remember that back in December, the Federal Communications Commission voted to repeal so-called “net neutrality” rules. Governor Ige has signed an Executive Order that requires all Internet Service Providers that do business with the State of Hawaii to adhere to net neutrality principles.

Honolulu Wastewater Study and Cesspool Conversion
State lawmakers are hearing a bill today that appropriates money to study sewage in our nearshore waters. Hawaii has some 90 thousand cesspools across the state. Kahaluu on Oahu and Maui are some areas of particular concern.

UHM Hanai Family Project
A pilot program at UH Manoa aims to ease the transition into college by drawing on a cherished Hawaii tradition. The Hanai Family Project pairs students coming to the university from the U.S. mainland or off-island with volunteer faculty or staff members.
