The problem of abandoned and derelict vehicle varies from island to island. On Oahu, the city secured two lots this summer to remove the junked cars off its city golf courses where the vehicles were being stored temporarily. We talked with Randy Leong, Deputy Director of the City’s Office of Customer Services, about overcoming the hurdles for clearing junked cars off city streets. This morning on the Big Island the County Council takes up a bill to clarify what it can do to rid neighborhoods of the eyesores and safety hazards of the abandoned and derelict cars. Councilmember Eileen O’Hara who introduced the measure explains predicament Hawaii Island’s situation.
